#172 LTLT S5 EP 46: Genesis 4:1-15; The Heart's Intentions and the Lessons of Cain and Abel
What if your heart and intentions mattered more than the offerings you bring? Join us as we explore the profound lessons hidden within Genesis chapter four, uncovering why Abel's offering won favor over Cain's, and what this ancient story teaches us about the essence of sincerity and devotion. With a heartfelt prayer to guide us, we search for deeper meaning in the different paths chosen by Adam and Eve's sons, urging introspection and spiritual growth. This episode isn't just about understanding scripture; it's about learning how to live with purpose and intention in our spiritual journey.
The story of Cain and Abel also serves as a cautionary tale about the dangers of jealousy and anger. We unravel the tragic consequences of Cain's misplaced fury, which led to the first murder in the Bible and a cursed existence. Our discussion underscores the importance of accountability and self-reflection, drawing wisdom from Cain's failure to seek forgiveness and the resulting rupture in his relationship with the earth. As we continue through Genesis, we invite you to walk alongside us, gaining insights that transcend time and offering blessings until we meet again.

Hello, hello, welcome back to Learning to Live and True, right here on God's Diamond in the Rough. So glad to be before you one more time. I hope all is well. I hope you're having a great day, a great night. Oh, excuse me now. Hope you're having a great day, great night. Amen, once again, I am here, ready to do it. Hope you're ready to get into the word.
Speaker 1:Amen, gods, no wrong one learning to live in truth. Excuse that god's down in the rough, but this is, it's one in the same. It's all the same, right? Yeah, um, there's no separation because they're both doing the same thing. Um, only difference between learning, living true and god's diamonds in the rough is that, um, michael's not here most of the time and we're not interviewing anybody. Um, that's the only difference between the two, but still rooted in the word of God. So it's all the same.
Speaker 1:I'm still asking God for clarity how we bring this thing together. But until then, this is how we're going to do it and we're going to pray. All right, let's go. Father, we thank you so much for your grace and your mercy. Thank you, god, for allowing us to come together once again to get into your word. I pray in the name of Jesus, that you will have your way here. Pray for everyone who comes into the room, everyone who comes in and has an ear to hear. Not only would they have an ear to hear, but have a mind and a heart to receive what it is that you have for them. Pray, in the name of Jesus, that you will use me to your glory, that I might be a light to the kingdom and a help to your people. I pray, god, that you would use this platform to that. It would help to disciple your children. Pray, god, that you would use it to your glory. Have your way. I thank you and we praise you In Jesus Christ's name. We do pray, amen, amen, hallelujah. I don't know if y'all notice I don't never do this the same. I don't, amen, I don't do this the same and, um, I just just follow the spirit. Amen, this is what we gotta learn how to do. Over the years I've learned just follow the spirit, he won't lead you wrong. Amen, hallelujah.
Speaker 1:So we left off. We finished up chapter three on yesterday. Now we are picking up chapter four of genesis. Amen, talking about cain and abel. So let's go.
Speaker 1:He says chapter four, verse one of genesis. He said of genesis says and adam knew eve, his wife, and she conceived, and bare cain, and said I have gotten a man from the Lord, all right. So when the Bible talks about when he said when they knew, knew, for biblically, is intimacy sex, okay, so he slept with his wife, she gets pregnant. Then, first, tuesday, verse 2 says and she again bare his brother, abel, and Abel was a keeper of the sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground. So now she has two children, both two different professions, like night and day. Okay, verse 3.
Speaker 1:And in the process of time, it came to pass. They came brought of the fruit of the ground and offering unto God, unto the Lord. Hold on y'all, let's switch my music. Yeah, alright, let's see I like this one. Yeah, okay. So as they grew up, so they grew up young men doing what they do. And now it's time to bring offerings unto the lord.
Speaker 1:Okay, uh, cain brought his offering of fruit. Okay, because what he was, a what the bible tells us? That cain was a tiller of the ground. Okay, so he was like a farmer. Yeah, all right. Now he says and abel, he also brought four of the first of the firstlings, firstlings Of his flock and of the fact Thereof. And Lord, have respect unto Abel and his offering. Okay, and so Cain. No, I'm sorry y'all, I'm a little distracted at the moment. I'm glad y'all see me right now. Gosh, um, let's see Abel. He was a shepherd. Okay, so Abel was a shepherd. Cain is a farmer.
Speaker 1:Okay, verse five. He says but unto Cain and to his offering, he had not respect. Cain was very wroth, wroth is angry and his continence failed. So he was angry. Not only was he angry, but he could see it. Okay, you could see that he was angry.
Speaker 1:Now he says, he says, and I'm going to come back and explain a little bit more of what I've learned over the years and what the spirit is revealing to me right now. So he says and the Lord, god, said unto Cain, why art thou wroth? So he says why are you angry and why is thy continence fallen? Why are you angry and why is that continence falling? Why are you angry? And what you know? What's going on? He says if thou do as well, shall thou not be accepted, and if thou do is not well, sin lied at the door and unto thee shall be his desire and thou shall His desire, and thou shalt rule over him. Okay, so let's back up for a moment. He says, okay, so let's look at what they gave.
Speaker 1:So Cain brought of the fruit of the grain, an offering, an offering. So he brought the offering. He brought an offering, but he just gave him an offering, just that. Okay, abel. Look at an offering. Just that, okay, abel. Look at the difference. This is Abel. He also brought of the firstling, the firstling of his flock and of the fat thereof. So what's the difference? Think about it. So what's the difference? Think about it. Abel gave the first of his flock, whereas Cain just gave an offering. Let's make it plain.
Speaker 1:You ever felt like people people sometimes watch us, yeah, and not. Sometimes. People sometimes watch us, yeah, and not. Sometimes people always watch us. And, um, it's unfortunate, even in the church people are watching what you're giving, and some folk they just give God, whatever it is $10, $20. But they look at you and every week you give your 10%, your first out of your. You know, your first, your 10%, whatever have you, okay, and they watch you be blessed by God. And they say, well, I'm doing, I'm giving my money too. Why come this ain't happening for me? Money too, why come this ain't happening for me? And and rather than getting into the word and finding out, or talking to God and saying you know what? What am I doing wrong? Why aren't you pleased? Cain didn't ask. Why aren't you pleased with what I've given you?
Speaker 1:That's a sincere heart, and this is the type of heart and posture that we need to have. If we're not going to do what he tells us to do, we can at least talk to him and ask him how I can do what you told me to do. Do you understand what I mean? Because we don't always do what we're supposed to do in the sight of God, and we know, and the thing about it is we don't always do what we're supposed to do. We don't know what we're supposed to do. We get mad at somebody else is doing what we are supposed to be doing. We get mad at them, get mad at God, because you know they are being rewarded for doing well. Well, I'm sure, if you do what you're supposed to do, you'll be rewarded and recognized for doing well, just as the other person did Well here, in this case Cain.
Speaker 1:Rather than him talking to his father and asking him what he can do to make this offering right. He got mad, he got angry and, rather than him looking at himself and what he did, he began to look at his brother. Did? He began to look at his brother, amen, and began to hate on him. God is not pleased with jealousy and envy. Don't look at them sideways, because God is pleased with what they've given to him. Amen, you got to learn how to focus on what you're giving him and whether or not it pleases him. Amen, if we know better, he will hold us accountable. Let me say that again if we know better, he will hold us accountable. Amen, he will not hold you accountable for what you don't know.
Speaker 1:Cain knew better. Cain knew how and when and what he was supposed to give unto the Lord out of what he had been given. He knew, but he did not. And then, rather than him getting um being humble, as if for forgiveness, and talking to God about it, he decided I'm mad at you. I'm going to get mad at you because you know you got the advantage over me. Look at verse eight.
Speaker 1:And Cain talked with Abel, his brother and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel, his brother, and slew him. He got mad at the wrong one. He should have been mad at himself because he knew better, amen. And he went and he began to talk to Abel and I'm sure our argument broke out. Abel probably just kind of like dude, what is wrong with you? I just gave what I was supposed to give. Why are you mad at me? Type of thing. And even I mean and you never know he could have been saying to to Abel give me, give me what you get, the same thing that you gave me, gave God, give it to me so I can give it to him. Or you know, abel could have tried to tell him, you know, um, what he needed to do in order to please god. You don't know what, what the conversation was about, but we get an idea here that what was said, kane didn't like it, amen, and because he didn't like it, he ended up killing his brother.
Speaker 1:And this is the first noted murder, um in the bible. So you know the things that we experience in this world is definitely in the bible. This is the first murder. He looked and he he says in verse nine and the lord said unto cain where is abel, thy brother? As if he didn't knew, it didn't know, he already knew. He said. He said I know not, I am. He said am I my brother's keeper? So he asked him where he was. Right. Then cain's response is I don't know. Then he says I'm not I. I can't keep up with him, I'm not gonna keep up with him. Okay, that was verse 10. Now verse 11.
Speaker 1:He says and now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother's blood from thy hand? So again, god already knew what Cain had done. This was Cain's opportunity to fess up and be humble, tell the Lord what he did. But he did not. And so, because he did not, he was cursed because of the blood, innocent blood, that was shed by his brother. This is what happened to Jesus Innocent blood was shed on the cross for the people that he loved.
Speaker 1:Verse 12, he says and when thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength. A fugitive and a vagabond, shalt thou be in the earth. So he says, because you did this, he says when you go out there to work, you won't yield what you could have been yielding. Okay, the earth won't give you its best, so you might get. Because he tilled the ground. You might get, you know, you might plant, and you might get, you know, your carrots. You might get your cucumbers, you might get your potatoes, you might get, you know, your carrots. You might get your cucumbers, you might get your potatoes. You might get, uh, you know your watermelon, but it won't be the best. You understand what I'm saying. You'll get something, but it won't be your best because it does not gonna give him the strength it won't give it. It's, it's, it's best. Yeah, he says you'll be a fugitive.
Speaker 1:Fugitive is like a runaway and a vag vagabond thou shalt be. Now. Vagabond is, as he says, cain's punishment destroyed the livelihood as a farmer and turned him into a vagabond. Let me see exactly what a vagabond is, real quick for you. Let me see here, and I have that written down somewhere. I don't have it with me right now, so I'm going to my apple, my phone, which is king james version, study bible, which has a bible in all different different versions of concordance, concordance, a dictionary, devotional, all kinds of stuff in this particular act. So Vagabond is Is a Wandering, moving From place to place Without any settled habitation, as a vagabond exile. So you could equate that to now where it would be a homeless, like a, like a bum on the street, just going from place to place. Yeah, and he's a fugitive and so.
Speaker 1:So this is now the life of Cain, and you know what I read 12. And 13. But I skipped 10. So when we look at 10. I'm just back up for a moment, y'all just hold your place, hold your mind at 12. But verse 10, he said. He said but hast thou done? The voice of thy brother's blood cried unto me from the ground. Yeah, so, um, I mean, I mean, it's a vivid picture of Jesus and everything that he endured At the cross. What we got to know Is that all of these stories Are symbolic and they teach the message and the story of Jesus Amen. Everything that was inflicted on him, everything he endured, was a picture of Jesus, amen. So, coming back to 12., cain is now a fugitive.
Speaker 1:Fugitive is always on the run for their life and a vagabond is a bum. You know, it's just going from place to place, I wouldn't even say a bum, but you heard of those people that kind of jump from a hobo, that's what they call them. They jump from train to train, they're always moving and never settle in one place. Yeah, so let's just equate them to like a hobo and a fugitive. Yeah, so look at 13.
Speaker 1:And Cain said unto the Lord, my punishment is greater than I can bear. Now he's ready to talk to God. He says this is too much. Oh, this is too much. He says Behold, thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth, and from thy face shall I be hid, and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth, and a vagabond in the earth. And it shall come to pass that everyone that findeth me shall slay me. So now Cain is fearful, and he's upset that because he's a fugitive, because he's a vagabond, he's now a target for attack. This is his fear.
Speaker 1:Verse 15 15. And god said unto him therefore, whosoever slayeth cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And the lord set a mark upon cain. Thus, any finding him shall kill him. Amen. So, um, kind of like an excavation. Excavation, I think. I'm saying it's like when you put out and you kicked out of where you were, and now you just nowhere. Yeah, that's kind of like where Cain is now for the moment. We're going to read a little further, but we don't stop right here. Pick up on tomorrow at verse 16. So Cain committed murder, killed his brother. Now he's cursed and on the run, trying to live.
Speaker 1:So that's where we leave off, and so let's go ahead and pray. Father, we thank you so much for your grace and your mercy. Thank you, god, for allowing us this time in your word. Once again, we bless your name as we bless your people. Pray that this was a help to everyone that has an ear to hear. I pray in the name of Jesus, lord, that you would continue to do a work in us that only you can do. Father, we love you so much, so very grateful, so thankful. Pray that this prayer, all of our prayers, are pleasing in your sight. In Jesus Christ's name, we do pray. Amen, amen, hallelujah, what a word right.
Speaker 1:Let's come on back here on tomorrow as we journey, continue to journey through this chapter four of Genesis. Amen. Hopefully we will finish that up on tomorrow and go ahead and start into five on the following day. So that is the plan, that is the order. Tell somebody else about the podcast, amen, that they might get a word as well. Amen, to go through this great book. Y'all, make sure y'all come on back with me on tomorrow, hope you have a great day, a great night. So much love from me to you, and not only love, but blessing. Amen From me to you. Y'all, come on back, we'll see you next time. Amen, amen and amen.
